New device allows brain to bypass spinal cord, move paralyzed limbs

For the first time ever, a paralyzed man can move his fingers and hand with his own thoughts thanks to a new device. A 23-year-old quadriplegic is the first patient to use Neurobridge, an electronic neural bypass for spinal cord injuries that reconnects the brain directly to muscles, allowing voluntary and functional control of a paralyzed limb.

SWEPT INTO SPACENGC 6960’s shape has earned it the informal moniker of the Witch’s Broom Nebula, and fittingly enough, it is the result of a massive shock wave sweeping up interstellar debris. Previously we showed you a section of the massive Veil Nebula (found here:http://on.fb.me/19qQIDO ) where the Witch’s Broom can be found. The nebula is the result of a stellar explosion that occurred some 9,000 years ago, lighting up the night sky for a few weeks in the constellation of Cygnus. The Witch’s Broom spans around 35 light years, and the entire nebula lies around 1,400 light years away. The force of the explosion rippled through surrounding gas and dust, exiting the atoms and creating the glowing filaments of hydrogen gas (colored red) and oxygen (blue) seen here. The star 52 Cygni glows brightly just above the center, but it is around 200 light years away and unrelated to the nebula. -RLOImage: Martin Pugh (Heaven’s Mirror Observatory)Source: http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap130529.html

"I suppose I have a really loose interpretation of “work,” because I think that just being alive is so much work at something you don’t always want to do. The machinery is always going. Even when you sleep."
Andy Warhol (via andywarhol-art)
